Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls, 62-50, to Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom fought hard against a very tough squad in Holy Family, only to be dealt a 62-50 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at the Jones Center.

The Tigers held a 31-25 lead before scoring nine straight points for a 40-25 cushion with 14:29 left.  Jill Conroy scored four points in that span and Erin Fenningham hit a 3-pointer.

The Lightning were in a battle all game and continued to do just that, battle.  The home team netted the next seven points in just under three minutes to close to 40-32 with 11:43 remaining.  Freshman Reighly Melochick (Pottsville, PA) hit a 3-pointer with senior Lillian Chukwueze (Cherry Hill, NJ) and freshman Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) each getting a basket.

But Holy Family pulled away later in the half, scoring five straight points for a 51-36 lead with 6:30 to play.  Kasey Woetzel hit two free throws before Reagan Jewell canned a huge 3-pointer.

Lexi Bruno had another solid game with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists over 40 minutes.  Melochick netted 13 points and freshman Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) had a blocked shot to give her 25 career, moving her into the school's career top 10 list.

Woetzel had 14 points and 12 rebounds, Sarah Pawlak recorded 12 and eight with Conroy scoring 12 points for the Tigers.

GBC (10-13, 9-5 CACC) had its season-best three-game winning streak snapped and remained in fourth place in the South Division with Holy Family (13-8, 10-3) third.  The Lightning's magic number for clinching a spot in the league tournament shrunk to one with Chestnut Hill's loss tonight vs. U. of the Sciences.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Saturday at Bloomfield as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 3:00 pm.
