Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Handed 74-63 Loss by Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom had a great opportunity to get a big home win against a top-level squad, but could not come through down the stretch in a tough 74-63 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to Holy Family at the Jones Center.

A close game most of the way saw the Tigers net eight straight points over 2 1/2 minutes to take a 57-47 lead with 10:15 left.  Eric Fleming netted five points in that run and Hunter Wysocki added three.

GBC continued to chip away, whittling the margin to 56-51 with 7:17 remaining when senior Joey Getz (Philadelphia, PA) hit a layup.  But Holy Family scored the next five points, including a massive 3-pointer from Turhan Griffin, for a 66-56 contest with 4:35 left.

The Lightning got closer with 2:32 remaining when senior Chris Gebhart (Cherry Hill, NJ) converted an old-fashioned three-point play for a 70-63 margin.  But empty possessions for the home team followed by two free throws with 83 seconds left from Reggie Charles for a 72-63 contest sealed the outcome.

Senior Kyle Steinbergin (Englewood, NJ) canned six 3-pointers to match his season high and now has 130 career, moving him into third place in school history.  Along with his 18 points, Getz had 15 and nine rebounds with Gebhart adding 15 and eight.

Fleming, Charles and Isaiah Gans all scored 14 points with Wysocki adding 12 for the Tigers, who shot 14-of-36 from 3-point range.  Holy Family (16-6, 10-3 CACC) entered the week eighth in the latest D2SIDA East Region Poll.

GBC (8-14, 5-9) fell two games in back of Wilmington-DE (7-7) for the fourth and final conference tournament spot from the South Division.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Saturday at Bloomfield as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 3:00 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm contest.
