Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Cruises to 91-67 Victory Over Wilmington (DE)

Freshman Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) scored 21 points to lead four players in double figures for Goldey-Beacom, which took control in the first half en route to a 91-67 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Wilmington (DE) at the Jones Center.

The Lightning were on fire in the opening half, shooting 58 percent (21-of-36) from the floor with six 3-pointers and scoring at least 50 points in the first half for the second straight game.  Senior Lillian Chukwueze (Cherry Hill, NJ) had 11 points and seven rebounds in the half with Bruno as well as freshmen Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) and Reighly Melochick (Pottsville, PA) adding 10 apiece.

Bruno in the second half made sure the lead would not evaporate, scoring 11 points in the period as part of GBC hitting 46 percent (11-of-24) during that span.

Bruno reached 20 points for the fifth time in her last seven games and helped Goldey-Beacom to its fifth win in the last seven outings.  She also had seven rebounds and six assists to give her 126 assists for the season, just 12 away from tying the school's single-season mark.

Bryson scored 19 points, Chukwueze had 16 and 10 rebounds in her final home game with Melochick getting 16 points for GBC.

Ebonee Dixon scored 16 points and Jasmine Lee added 11 for the Wildcats (8-18, 6-12 CACC), who shot 41 percent (27-of-66) from the field.

Goldey-Beacom (12-14, 11-6) moved within one game of Holy Family (12-5) for third place in the CACC South Division and two games of Philadelphia U. (12-3) for second.

Before the men's game, GBC presented former cross country coach Brian Conley with the first William Conley Award.  The award will be given annually to someone in athletics who has displayed courage, determination and perseverance the same way Conley has.

Goldey-Beacom hits the road Saturday to visit Dominican (NY) as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 1:00 pm, which precedes the men's 3:00 pm contest.
