Men’s Basketball Dealt 74-56 Loss by Bridgeport



Goldey-Beacom could not overcome a rough first half and was handed a 74-56 loss by regionally ranked Bridgeport at the Jones Center.
 
Bridgeport (16-6) raced to a 33-20 halftime lead by shooting 44 percent from both the field (12-of-27) and three-point range (4-of-9).  Willie Williams III and Devon Elliott scored seven points apiece with Eddie Asamoah adding six.
 
The barrage continued in the second half with the Purple Knights using a 14-3 run to open a 49-28 cushion with 14:21 remaining.  Ernest Rouse put on a clinic with three 3-pointers in that span and Williams added five points.
 
Chris Gebhart (Cherry Hill, NJ) had 14 points and eight rebounds with fellow senior Kyle Steinbergin (Englewood, NJ) adding 12 points on four 3-pointers for the Lightning (8-16).  GBC did its best to get back into the game by shooting 46 percent (13-of-28) from the floor in the second half, but only hit 39 percent (22-of-57) overall.
 
Rouse scored 23 points, Asamoah had 15 and eight rebounds, Williams netted 13 points and Elliott amassed 11 for Bridgeport, which shot 49 percent (25-of-51) for the game.  The Purple Knights entered the week ranked eighth in the D2SIDA East Region Poll.
 
Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Caldwell as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 3:00 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm contest.
