Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Breaks the Ice with 81-78 Victory Over Chestnut Hill

Sophomore Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) scored 25 points and junior Jasmyne Lewis (Mount Holly, NJ) paced Goldey-Beacom in the fourth quarter, helping their team to an 81-78 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Chestnut Hill at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Things did not look good for the home side when the Griffins scored seven straight points to open a 57-51 lead in the first minute of the fourth quarter.  Nicole Parriski netted five points in that span.

But the Lightning found their game by scoring the next nine points for a 60-57 lead with 5:08 left.  Sophomore Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA), named this week to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll, had three points in the spurt.

The contest was deadlocked, 63-63, when Lewis came up big on both ends of the floor.  She hit a jumper with 3:37 left to give GBC a two-point lead and then had a huge block on Mary Trossi to keep the momentum with the home side.

Trossi's layup with 2:39 to play made it 66-65, but Lewis continued her torrid quarter by sticking a huge 3-pointer to make it a four-point contest with 2:29 remaining.

Bryson hit 1-of-2 from the stripe with 2:09 to play for a 70-65 game before Jaeda Wildgoose's layup with 1:53 left made it a three-point contest.  But Lewis came up with a big assist as she found Bryson underneath for a layup with 1:37 to go for a seven-point game that all but ended things.

Goldey-Beacom outscored Chestnut Hill 30-26 in the fourth quarter by shooting 8-of-15 from the floor and 11-for-16 from the line.  Lewis scored 12 points in that span and Bruno closed with 10 for the Lightning, who ended the game with 11 three-pointers.

Lewis ended with a career-best 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting with six rebounds and three 3-pointers for the Lightning (1-9, 1-3 CACC).  Bruno also had a season-high eight assists to go with five steals and four 3-pointers.  Bryson finished with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting, seven rebounds and a career-best five blocks.

Trossi played great with 24 points and seven assists, Brittany McDonough netted 14 points, Wildgoose and Caity Kuhnen had 11 apiece and Lauren Milligan hauled in seven rebounds for the Griffins (3-4, 1-1).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Georgian Court as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  During the 1:00 pm doubleheader, the Lightning will host a toy drive with all proceeds benefiting a local family in Wilmington who saw its house devastated in a recent fire.  All fans are asked to bring either an unwrapped toy or a monetary gift.
