Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tillman’s Block Party Helps Men’s Basketball to Triumph Over Chestnut Hill

Junior Elijah Tillman (Garnersville, NY) fell two blocked shots shy of a triple-double as his dominant play carried Goldey-Beacom to an 82-73 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Chestnut Hill at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning led by as many as 16 points in the opening half to grab a 46-31 lead, thanks to shooting 50 percent (17-of-34) from the field and limiting the Griffins to only 26 percent (10-of-38).  Sameen Swint (Sicklerville, NJ) poured in 13 points in that span with fellow junior Shakeem Wilson (Brooklyn, NY), a three-time member of this season's CACC Weekly Honor Roll, getting nine.

Chestnut Hill tried to make a game of it by scoring seven straight points to move to 61-47 with 13:07 remaining.  But Goldey-Beacom (2-7, 1-2 CACC) was not to be denied on this night, getting the next eight points to open its biggest lead at 69-47 with 10:57 to play.  Tillman scored three points in that span.

Tillman's play in the second half made sure the Griffins (3-5, 1-1) would not get back in the contest.  He totaled seven points in the half, but it was his 11 rebounds and three blocks that were the biggest factor.  Freshman Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) scored 12 points in the stanza, going 6-for-8 from the line.

Tillman had career bests of 13 points, 18 rebounds and eight blocks in a dominating effort.  Swint scored a season-high 19 points, Taite netted 18 and Wilson added 13 to help GBC shoot 50 percent (26-of-52) from the field.

Demetrius Isaac scored 19 points, Gerald Evariste netted 13, Antonio Toplyn Jr. had 12 and Noel Hightower contributed 10 rebounds for the Griffins, who only shot 34 percent (25-of-73) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Georgian Court as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  During the 1:00 pm doubleheader, the Lightning will host a toy drive with all proceeds benefiting a local family in Wilmington who saw its house devastated in a recent fire.  All fans are asked to bring either an unwrapped toy or a monetary gift.
