Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Handed 74-54 Loss at Philadelphia U.

Goldey-Beacom played hard throughout, but its second straight game against a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference finalist from last year resulted in a 74-54 loss at Philadelphia University.

Goldey-Beacom trailed 20-10 after the first quarter, due in large part to Philadelphia U. going on a 13-0 run midway through the period and the latter also shooting 8-of-15 from the field.  Bria Young scored nine points for the Rams in the quarter.

Philadelphia U. made the score 38-21 at halftime, shooting 54 percent (15-of-28) from the field and holding GBC to only 27 percent (8-of-30).  Newell finished the half with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and Young added 10.

The Lightning did not give up in the second half, shooting 40 percent (14-of-35) from the field and holding the Rams' bench to no points after intermission.  Sophomore Mikila Stefanski (Hammonton, NJ) netted 10 points in the second half for GBC, which fell Wednesday at reigning league champion Holy Family.

Stefanski matched her season best by scoring 14 points with sophomore Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) getting 13 and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.  Sophomore Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ), a member of the CACC Weekly Honor Roll the last three weeks, scored 11 points for GBC (0-9, 0-3 CACC).

Newell could not be stopped in the post, scoring 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting for the Rams (5-3, 3-0).  Tori Arnao had 12 points and 16 rebounds, Young scored 16 points and Rachel Day added 15, going 5-of-9 from three-point range.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Chestnut Hill as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game start at 6:00 pm, which precedes the men's 8:00 pm contest.
