Women’s Basketball Drops Home Opener, 71-54, to Bloomsburg

Goldey-Beacom bumped heads with a strong defensive unit in Bloomsburg and left its home opener with a 71-54 loss at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Bloomsburg, which led for more than 38 minutes, used an 11-2 run in just over two minutes to take control for a 63-47 lead.  Adreana Sadowski scored four points in that run and ended things on a layup with 5:02 remaining.

The Huskies shot 69 percent (11-of-16) from the floor in the fourth quarter and outscored the Lightning, 23-15 in that span with Morgan Klunk getting six points.  GBC was held to only 39 percent (7-of-18) shooting in the period.

Mia Hopkins for the game had 17 points and 10 rebounds with both Sadowski and Klunk each getting 13 and seven.  Alex Ross notched 11 points and seven rebounds with Alyssa Mack adding 10 points for Bloomsburg (2-0).

Sophomore Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ), who this week was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll, scored 18 points and hauled in six rebounds for the Lightning (0-3).  Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) posted 15 points and eight rebounds with fellow sophomore Marisa Howard (Reminderville, OH) scoring eight points off the bench for GBC, which only shot 32 percent (20-of-62) from the field.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against New York Tech for a 2:30 pm contest.
