Women’s Basketball Handed 67-47 Loss at Assumption



Goldey-Beacom once again ran into a strong opponent up in New England and was handed a 64-47 loss by Assumption in Worcester, MA.
 
The Lightning found themselves in a 20-11 hole after the first quarter and despite gaining a 25-24 edge over the next two periods, could not recover.  The GBC defense forced Assumption to shoot only 39 percent (13-of-33) from the floor in the first half, but itself only could hit 35 percent (10-of-29).
 
Sophomore Mikila Stefanski (Hammonton, NJ) scored 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting and hit four 3-pointers, giving her double figures in consecutive games for the second time in her career.  She also netted 14 points Friday against Stonehill.
 
Junior Jasmyne Lewis (Mount Holly, NJ) scored nine points, Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) netted eight and fellow sophomore Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) grabbed eight rebounds for the Lightning, who only shot 30 percent (19-of-63) from the field.
 
Kelly Carey scored 10 points, Kelly Conley poured in nine and Ann Marie Idusuyi hauled in 13 rebounds for the Greyhounds (2-0).

Bruno was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 15.5 points and 6.0 assists over two games.  She shot 40 percent (14-of-35) from the floor and played 35 minutes each contest.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday plays its home opener against Bloomsburg, starting at 6:00 pm.
