Women’s Tennis Cruises to 8-1 Victory over University of the Sciences

Goldey-Beacom dropped just two games in doubles and won five singles matches in straight sets for a convincing 8-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over University of the Sciences in Wilmington, DE.

Junior Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) and freshman Merel Ann van Zanten (Velserbroek, Netherlands) began things at first doubles with an 8-2 triumph over Victoria Quang and Elkanah Linder. Amina Mrad (Berlin, Germany) and fellow junior Pauline Rozet (Malakoff, France) got an 8-0 win at second doubles over Abbygail Gamarnik and Jillyan Serrano with junior Francesca Beg (Westbury, England) and freshman Manuela Cornejo (Waldbronn, Germany) rolling to an 8-0 triumph at No. 3 doubles vs. Andria Dang and Allison Korn.

Mrad got a battle at second singles before posting a 7-3, 6-3 win over Gamarnik and Sengl cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles over Linder. Rozet posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Serrano at fourth singles, Van Zanten notched a 6-0, 6-0 triumph vs. Dang at No. 5 singles and Cornejo recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win over Korn at sixth singles.

It is the Lightning's eighth straight victory over the Devils (1-6, 0-4 CACC) and they are 4-0 all-time in such matches at home.

Goldey-Beacom (3-2, 2-2) is on the road Monday at Chestnut Hill for a 3:00 pm match.
