Men’s Soccer Rolls to 3-0 Victory Over Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom dominated Holy Family from the opening whistle and cruised to a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Holy Family in Wilmington, DE to end the regular season.

Sophomore Alvaro Martinez (Zaragoza, Spain) got things going for the Lightning with his second goal of the season.  He took a deflection from sophomore Manuel Berto (Valencia, Spain) and knocked in a 10-yard shot in the 14th minute for a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) continued his standout campaign in the 32nd minute, banging home a 15-yard shot for a 2-0 margin and his third goal of the year.

GBC added an insurance marker in the 80th minute when sophomore Omar Hernandez (West Grove, PA) fed a great ball to freshman Callum Flynn (Guildford, England), who calmly found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.

Not to be forgotten was the great play of freshman goalkeeper Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa), who came up with seven saves that included many incredible stops.  He now has 66 saves this season, good for eighth best in school history.

Silvestre and junior Rerom Delys (Vila Velha, Brazil) each had three shots for the Lightning, who posted a 14-10 shots edge.

Mariano Cepeda fired three shots and Richard Ongaro came up with three saves over 31 minutes for the Tigers (5-12-1, 5-7 CACC).

The win kept GBC (7-11, 5-7) alive in its hope of making the CACC Tournament, but it will have to sit and scoreboard watch.  In order to make it, Georgian Court must lose its game Saturday morning at Caldwell and Nyack must either lose or tie its game Friday to Post.
