Women’s Tennis Notches Huge 7-2 Victory at Philadelphia U.

Goldey-Beacom won all three doubles matches and swept its four singles victories to put itself in prime position to once again make the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 7-2 victory at Philadelphia University.

GBC (4-3, 3-3 CACC) moves into a tie for fourth place in the conference with Philadelphia U. (6-3, 3-3) and owns the tiebreaker for the league's final tournament spot with this win. The Lightning would clinch their eighth straight berth as well as the number four seed with a victory Friday against Caldwell.

Junior Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) and freshman Merel Ann van Zanten (Velserbroek, Netherlands) got things rolling at first doubles with an 8-2 victory over Julia Arruda and Jala Hamada before juniors Amina Mrad (Berlin, Germany) and Pauline Rozet (Malakoff, France) cruised to an 8-2 triumph at No. 2 doubles vs. Emily Chung and Anna Kudriavtceva. Junior Francesca Beg (Westbury, England) and freshman Manuela Cornejo (Waldbronn, Germany) got an 8-5 triumph at third doubles over Usha Baublitz and Mariana Sampaio.

The Lightning then closed things in singles. Mrad recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles vs. Kudriavtceva, Sengl notched a 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3) triumph vs. Hamada at third singles, van Zanten posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles over Baublitz with Cornejo getting a 6-2, 7-5 triumph at sixth singles vs. Sampaio.

Friday's match at the Delcastle Tennis Center begins at 3:00 pm.
