Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hernandez Scores Overtime Goal for Men’s Soccer in 2-1 Victory vs. Pitt-Johnstown

Sophomore Omar Hernandez (West Grove, PA) provided Goldey-Beacom's second golden goal in as many days, scoring 7:58 into overtime for his squad's 2-1 victory over Pitt-Johnstown in Wilmington, DE.

Sophomore Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil), who was the hero in Tuesday's 4-3 victory over Nyack, provided today's winning helper.  He had the ball on the left side and presented a great pass to Hernandez, who calmly deposited it inside the left post for his third goal of the year.

It was the Lightning's school-record third overtime victory of the season, breaking the mark it shared with the 2002 and 2003 squads.

Junior Erik Tapper (Linkoping, Sweden) opened the scoring with his first goal of the year, firing a 20-yard shot inside the right post for a 1-0 GBC lead.  Pitt-Johnstown leveled the match in the 33rd minute when Erik Etter's throw-in was headed home by Kevin Neskie for the latter's second goal of the season.

Sophomore Fernando Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) came off the bench to attempt four shots and freshman Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) made three saves for the Lightning (5-9).

Neskie had three shots and Nate Kleya came up with nine saves for the Mountain Cats (1-12).

Goldey-Beacom is home again on Saturday against Dominican (NY) as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 3:15 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm match.
