Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Dealt 3-2 Loss at Concordia (NY)

Goldey-Beacom nearly rallied from a three-goal deficit and had several great chances late, but it was not to be in a 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference setback to Concordia (NY) in Bronxville, NY.

Things looked ominous early for the Lightning, who surrendered a goal in the eighth minute for a 1-0 deficit.  Javier Alvarez Vispo got a great give-and-go pass from Jesus Alvarez-Riesco and scored his third goal of the year.

Alvarez-Riesco converted a penalty kick in the 13th minute for his third goal of the season and Mauricio Chaparro tallied in the 60th minute, converting a cross from David McKenzie for a 3-0 margin.

The Lightning were not dead, especially when senior Daniel Bennett (Pittsgrove, NJ) knocked home a pair of penalty kicks.  The latter came in the 69th minute for a 3-2 contest, giving him three goals on the year.

GBC many times this season has showed its mettle near the end of periods and a comeback here almost was complete.  Fernando Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) had a great shot in the 83rd minute saved by Ruel Gordon and a point-blank attempt from fellow sophomore Manuel Berto (Valencia, Spain) in the 86th minute struck the right post.

The final chance came from sophomore Artur Zvinchuk (Bonn, Germany), who had a great attempt just outside the box sail wide left as time expired.

Goldey-Beacom ended with a 19-11 shots edge that included 11-4 in the second half.  Sanchez had four attempts and freshman Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) made three saves for the Lightning (3-9, 2-5 CACC).

Chaparro took three shots and Gordon made four saves for the Clippers (6-3-1, 4-3-1).

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday hosts Nyack for a 3:30 pm contest.
