Men’s Basketball Falls, 85-66, to Regionally Ranked Philadelphia University



Goldey-Beacom was blitzed early by a red-hot shooting squad in Philadelphia University and was handed an 85-66 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at the Jones Center.
 
The Rams did all the damage they had to do in the first half, opening a 44-25 intermission lead during a stanza in which they led by as many as 24 points.  Derek Johnson scored 16 points in the half and Peter Alexis added 12 for the visitors, who did not have a substitute throughout the period.
 
Philadelphia U. shot 57 percent (16-of-28) from the floor in the half and was 5-of-9 from 3-point range.  It ended the contest shooting 56 percent (28-of-50) overall from the field, 8-of-16 from 3-point range and helped coach Herb Magee to his 998th career victory.
 
Nick Schlitzer scored 23 points, Johnson ended with 22 points, Alexis poured in 19, Andre Gibbs netted 11 and TJ Huggins contributed 10 and 10 rebounds for Philadelphia U. (13-5, 7-2 CACC), which entered tied for 10th in this week's D2SIDA East Region Poll.
 
Senior Chris Gebhart (Cherry Hill, NJ) had 21 points and seven rebounds, freshman Daniel Cooper (Homestead, FL) poured in 17 points and senior Joey Getz (Philadelphia, PA) added 12 for the Lightning (6-13, 3-8).
 
Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Post as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 3:00 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm contest.
