Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Falls Just Short in 64-56 Loss at USciences

Goldey-Beacom gave its all against a very tough squad in University of the Sciences, but in the end was handed a 64-56 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference setback in Philadelphia, PA.

A battle throughout saw the Devils (14-4, 8-2 CACC) use an 8-3 run to break a 46-46 tie and grab a 54-49 lead with 5:43 left.  Sho Da-Silva was the difference for the home team with six points in that spurt.

The Lightning (6-11, 3-6) hung around and got a huge 3-pointer from senior Joey Getz (Philadelphia, PA) with 1:59 to play for a 57-54 deficit.  Da-Silva gave USciences the momentum back with a mid-range jumper for a 59-54 game with 1:25 left.

Senior Derrick Archie (Wilmington, DE) canned a jumper for GBC to make it 59-56 and after Getz came up with a steal, the visitors were back in business.  They worked the ball around looking for the tie, but senior Kyle Steinbergin (Englewood, NJ) could not convert on a three-point attempt.

Da-Silva hit twice from the line with 43 seconds to play for a 61-56 Devils lead.  Sophomore Sameen Swint (Sicklerville, NJ) had his three-point attempt rim out for GBC and, after Garret Kerr missed the front end of a one-and-one, Getz misfired from beyond the arc with 18 seconds to play.

Senior Chris Gebhart (Cherry Hill, NJ) had his way in the post, getting 18 points and nine rebounds seemingly with ease.  Steinbergin scored 12 points and Archie had eight rebounds for the Lightning, who shot 38 percent (21-of-55) from the field.

Garret Kerr had 21 points and 13 rebounds with Wes Kerr and Da-Silva contributing 13 points for the Devils, who shot 44 percent (24-of-54) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom found itself in a 30-27 hole at halftime despite Gebhart scoring 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.  Garret Kerr had 14 points and seven rebounds in the half for USciences.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Felician as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 3:00 pm, following the women's 1:00 pm contest.

The Lightning on Saturday also will be hosting "Suits & Sneakers" Weekend as part of Coaches vs. Cancer.  All proceeds from the concession stands will go toward the American Cancer Society.
