Men’s Basketball Rolls to 71-58 Victory Over Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom ran roughshod over Chestnut Hill in the second half, holding it off the scoreboard for six minutes in a huge 71-58 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at the Jones Center.

A massive battle with fourth place on the line was a 36-34 GBC lead with 15:32 left.  That was before the Lightning scored 20 straight points to gain a 56-34 cushion with 9:30 and earn a split of the season series.  Senior Derrick Archie (Wilmington, DE) and sophomore Sameen Swint (Sicklerville, NJ) scored seven points apiece in that run.

It was the defining spurt of a half in which the Lightning shot 50 percent (13-of-26) from the floor and limited the Griffins to only 32 percent (12-of-38).  Swint poured in 12 points during the half and Archie added nine.

Swint scored 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting, sophomore Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (New Castle, DE) netted 14, Archie had 12 and 11 rebounds with senior Chris Gebhart (Cherry Hill, NJ) matching his season high with 12 rebounds.  The Lightning shot 46 percent (24-of-52) overall and hit five 3-pointers.

Seamus Radtke had 18 points and eight rebounds with Luke Dickson adding 10 points for the Griffins, who shot 34 percent (22-of-64) overall and were 3-of-15 from 3-point range.

Goldey-Beacom (6-10, 3-5 CACC) moved into a tie for fourth place with Chestnut Hill (4-11, 3-5 CACC) in the CACC South Division.  The top four teams in each of the two divisions advance to the conference tournament.

Goldey-Beacom steps out of league play Sunday to host regionally ranked Bridgeport, starting at 2:00 pm.
