Volleyball Splits Tri-Match Against Saint Anselm and Cheyney

Receveur Records 1,000th Career Dig in Loss Against Hawks

WILMINGTON, Del.
– Senior outside hitter Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) tallied 37 kills with 21 digs and eight service aces to lead Goldey-Beacom College (4-4) to a split of a non-conference tri-match against Saint Anselm College (6-2) and Cheyney University (1-3) at the Joseph West Jones College Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Lightning, who have won three of their last four matches, dropped a five-set decision against Saint Anselm in the first match before posting a three-set victory over the Wolves in the final match of the afternoon.

In the second match, Saint Anselm tallied a three-set win over the Wolves by scores of 25-13, 25-7 and 25-21.

McCoy posted a career-high 28 kills with a .371 hitting percentage in the loss against Saint Anselm whole adding 14 digs and three service aces. Meanwhile, senior defensive specialist Niki Receveur (Concord H.S./Wilmington, Del.) added 20 digs, including the 1,000th of her college career, for the Lightning.

Junior setter Danielle Cipolletti (Scottsdale H.S./Scottsdale, Ariz.) added 50 assists with nine assists and three blocks against the Hawks, who claimed the win by set scores of 16-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21 and 15-13.

In the victory over Cheyney, junior middle hitter Innocent Early (Eastside H.S./Newark, N.J.) recorded 14 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. McCoy added nine kills with five service aces and seven digs while senior defensive specialist Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) contributed five service aces with four digs.

Post-Match Quotes: Goldey-Beacom Coach Richard Bowers
"Once we lost the third set against Saint Anselm, the attitude changed and we stopped communicating and talking. We stopped playing smart. We are getting there though. We didn't roll over and we pushed it to a fifth game. We see improvement all the time and that is what we are looking for."
"Niki is a stable person for us on defense. We know she is going to pass well and play defense well. All six of the players who have reached 1,000 digs have done it during my tenure, which is great. I always stress that good defense leads to good offense."
"We have been working with our middle hitters. I believe we have two good middle hitters and two great outside hitters. We are trying to use our middle hitters to take some of the pressure off the outside hitters."
"We have been talking more and everything seems to be clicking for us. When we don't have a good match, it's because we are not communicating. It's all about communication for us."
