KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Despite a four-hit performance from sophomore catcher Alivia Schoff (Rising Sun H.S./Colora, Md.), the Goldey-Beacom College softball team was unable to continue its recent success as the Lightning dropped a pair of non-conference games against Kutztown University at the Bears' North Campus Field on Wednesday afternoon.

After overcoming an early two-run deficit to earn a 6-2 victory in the first game, the Bears handed the Lightning an 8-0 loss in the nightcap.

Led by Schoff, the Lightning claimed a 2-0 advantage in the first inning of the first game. After senior infielder Ashley Zaccaria (Gloucester City H.S./Gloucester City, N.J.) singled and stole second base to open the game, Schoff blasted her second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.

However, junior pitcher Dominique Ficara (Kingsway H.S./Swedesboro, N.J.) and the Bears did not allow a hit for the remainder of the game as the Bears scored six unanswered runs to claim the four-run victory.

In the second game, the Bears built an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning before erupting for four runs in the fifth inning for a 5-0 edge.

Kutztown added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the lead to 8-0, ending the game via the eight-run rule.

While Schoff led the Lightning with four hits and two runs batted in, Zaccaria added a pair of hits with a run scored.

The Lightning will continue their 13-game road trip on Friday, Apr. 11 by visiting Lincoln University for a 2 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
