Rocio Cabanillas Moreno (Sevilla, Spain), the Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team rebounded from its first loss of the Spring season by earning a 6-3 non-conference victory over the University of the District of Columbia (7-7) on Sunday afternoon.
The Lightning, who improved to 11-5 on the season, earned their fourth victory in the last five matches. Meanwhile, the Firebirds dropped their fifth straight match.
After teaming with freshman
Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) to earn an 8-6 victory at number one doubles, Cabanillas Moreno turned in a 6-3, 7-5 triumph at number two singles. Meanwhile, freshman
Maria Angeles Victoria Martinez (Totana, Spain) also claimed two wins against the Firebirds with an 8-6 victory at number two doubles in addition to a 7-5, 6-2 decision at number three singles.

Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal) earned a pair of wins against the Firebirds. She paired with senior
Gabriela Chaves (Joao Pessoa-PB, Brazil) at number three doubles to earn an 8-1 decision before posting a 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-3 win at number four singles.
The Lightning will return to action on Monday, Apr. 7 when they travel to Bloomsburg for a 4 p.m. non-conference match against the Huskies.
