PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman infielder Brittany Granahan (Maple Shade H.S./Maple Shade, N.J.) hit the first two home runs of her college career and drove in five runs as the University of the Sciences (8-22, 7-13) earned a sweep of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader over Goldey-Beacom College (7-26, 4-16) at the Devils' McNeil Field on Thursday afternoon.

After overcoming a 2-0 deficit in the first game to earn a 5-2 victory, the Devils recorded the sweep by posting an 8-0 shutout win in the nightcap.

In the first game, the Lightning used an RBI single by freshman utility player Paulynn Mao (Rancho Alamitos H.S./Anaheim, Calif.) in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead.

However, the Devils answered in the bottom of the fourth inning when Granahan blasted her first home run with a grand slam to left field with two outs.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Devils added an insurance run when freshman utility player Kiersten Badzgon (Keystone Oaks H.S./Pittsburgh, Pa.) drove in a run with a groundout.

From there, the Lightning were held without a hit in the final two innings as sophomore pitcher Cassie Lepotsky (North Schuylkill H.S./Ashland, Pa.) secured the victory.

The Devils claimed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the second game when Badzgon hit an RBI single up the middle.

After adding a run in the third and fourth innings to increase the advantage to 3-0, the Devils scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game by the eight-run rule. Granahan hit her second home run of the season with one out in the inning for a four-run edge before a double by junior infielder Devon Debellis (Bishop Eustace Prep/Marlton, N.J.) added another run.

An RBI single by freshman Barbara Barron (Washington Township H.S./Sicklerville, N.J.) upped the Devils' margin to 6-0 before Badzgon drove in two more runs with an infield single, ending the game.

Granahan tallied four hits, including her two home runs, while scoring three runs with five runs batted in. Meanwhile, Badzgon posted four runs batted in while contributing three hits.

Mao and senior outfielder Michelle Foster (Overbrook H.S./West Berlin, N.J.) each recorded three hits in the doubleheader for Goldey-Beacom while freshman outfielder Charlee King (Hodgson Vo-Tech H.S./New Castle, Del.) added a pair of hits.

The Lightning, who finished an 11-game road trip with the doubleheader against the Devils, will return home on Saturday, Apr. 19 to host Nyack College in a CACC doubleheader at 1 p.m.

Game Notes: The Devils earned their second CACC doubleheader sweep of the season … They defeated Nyack in a pair of games on Mar. 15 … USciences also ended a four-game losing streak with its victory in the first game … With her three-hit performance against the Devils, Foster is now tied with Kendra Russell for first place on the Lightning's all-time hits list … Russell and Foster have each recorded 154 hits … Senior Roni Peters has now played in 159 career games for the Lightning, the third-highest total in school history … If she plays both games in Saturday's doubleheader, Peters will move into a tie for the all-time mark with Danie Rice (2009-12) and Cailin Cavanaugh (2009-12).
