Game 2WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior outfielder
Michelle Foster (Overbrook H.S./West Berlin, N.J.) set the Goldey-Beacom College career hits record to lead the Lightning (8-27, 5-17) to a split of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader over Nyack College (3-29, 3-19) at the Jackson Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Lightning, who returned home after a 13-game road trip, won the opener by a 10-5 margin before the Warriors earned the split by posting their first shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory in the nightcap.
Nyack took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a single by junior infielder
Meghan Richards (Nanuet, N.Y.) and a double by sophomore utility player
Tori Flemming (Plano, Texas).
But, the Lightning answered by scoring six times in the bottom of the first inning to claim a 6-2 advantage. Foster, who also holds the Lightning's single-season hits record, became the school's all-time hit leader when she hit an RBI single to right field and scored on a three-base error to tie the game at 2-2. It was her 155th career hit, surpassing the mark set by
Kendra Russell from 2005-08.
After a sacrifice fly by freshman utility player
Paulynn Mao (Rancho Alamitos H.S./Anaheim, Calif.) gave Goldey-Beacom a 3-2 edge, a pair of bases loaded walks by sophomore designated player
Taylor Ewing (North Dorchester H.S./Hurlock, Md.) and freshman utility player
Amber Wroble (Chopticon H.S./Mechanicsville, Md.) extended the margin to 5-2.
With one out in the inning, senior shortstop
Ashley Zaccaria (Gloucester City H.S./Gloucester City, N.J.) singled home a run to increase the Lightning's advantage to 6-2.
In the top of the third inning, the Warriors trimmed the deficit to 6-4. After Richards drove in a run with a ground out, senior catcher
Tesla Murillo (Indio, Calif.) added an RBI single to center field.
Sophomore catcher
Alivia Schoff (Rising Sun H.S./Colora, Md.) upped the Goldey-Beacom lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the third inning by hitting a sacrifice fly to center field for her team-leading 23rd run batted in.
The Lightning added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning before an RBI single by Mao in the bottom of the fifth inning increased the advantage to 10-4.
Despite an RBI ground out by senior outfielder
Anna Bailey (Milford, Conn.) in the top of the sixth inning, the Warriors were unable to get any closer.
In the second game, the Warriors scored the game's only run in the top of the second inning when senior infielder
Kathleen McClain (New Haven, Conn.) hit an RBI double to left field.
Led by freshman
Ashley Manger (North Haledon, N.J.) and sophomore
Christine Kline (Midland Park, N.J.), the Warriors limited the Lightning to just two hits en route to the shutout win.
Zaccaria led the Lightning to the doubleheader sweep by posting five hits with a pair of runs scored and two runs batted in. Meanwhile, senior
Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) posted a pair of hits in the first game while driving in a pair of runs.
Richards led the Warriors with two hits in the first game along with two runs batted in while Bailey added a pair of hits.
