GBC-Philadelphia University Box Score: HTMLWILMINGTON, Del. – Led by a complete team effort, the Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team continued its stellar start to the Spring portion of its schedule by posting an 8-1 non-conference victory over Philadelphia University (12-6) at the Delcastle Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lightning, who improve to 10-4 on the season, also reach the 10-win mark for the fifth time in the last six seasons after earning their second victory over the Rams this season.
Goldey-Beacom jumped out to an early 2-1 lead by claiming two of the three doubles matches, including an 8-0 victory at number two doubles by junior
Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia) and freshman
Maria Angeles Victoria Martinez (Totana, Spain).
From there, the Lightning secured the victory by sweeping all six singles matches in straight set fashion. Puentes Robinson posted a 6-4, 6-0 win at number one singles, moving her into sole possession of third place on the Lightning's career wins list with her 41st career triumph.
The Lightning will try to extend their win streak on Wednesday, Apr. 2 when they play their third match in as many days with a non-conference match-up against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 1 p.m.
