LEWES, Del. - Playing in a match for the first time since October, the Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team (8-4) opened its Spring schedule by posting a 4-3 non-conference victory over Delaware State University at the Marshall Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
After the Lightning claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches, the Hornets answered by claiming victories at the top three singles flights to take a 3-1 lead.
But, Goldey-Beacom overcame the deficit by earning wins in the bottom three flights, including an exciting 5-7, 7-5, 10-4 victory at number four singles by junior
Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal).
Correia also teamed with senior
Gabriela Chaves (Joao Pessoa-PB, Brazil) to earn an 8-2 triumph at number three doubles.
The Lightning will return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 12 when they travel to West Chester for a 2:30 p.m. match.
