Women’s Basketball Succumbs Late in 70-66 Loss at Concordia (NY)

Goldey-Beacom held a late lead in going for its second straight league triumph, but gave up a late basket and was dealt a 70-66 Central Athletic Collegiate Conference loss at Concordia (NY) in Bronxville, NY.

The Lightning used a 7-2 run in just under two minutes to open a 61-54 lead with 8:39 left. Reighly Melochick (Pottsville, PA) canned a 3-pointer in that run and fellow freshman Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) ended it with two free throws.

The Clippers then began to chip away, moving to 65-64 with 4:04 to go on Jessica Rosalbo's layup.  But Goldey-Beacom got a free throw from freshman Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) for a two-point cushion with 3:20 remaining.

Rebecca Gordon hit a free throw to close Concordia's deficit to 66-65 with 2:15 left and her team got the ball back after Bruno's missed 3-pointer.  The Clippers then grabbed the lead for good on Rosalbo's jumper with 1:37 to play.

The Lightning caught a break when Jasmyne Lewis' missed layup was grabbed by Bryson to give the visitors new life.  But Bruno missed a jumper and Julianne Wilkinson got the rebound for the Clippers.

Rosalbo hit once from the stripe with 32 seconds left and added two more with 16 seconds to go for the final.

Bruno continued her torrid play with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting, six steals and four rebounds.  Bryson scored 14 points and Melochick added 13 off the bench for the Lightning (1-7, 1-1 CACC).

Rosalbo poured in 17 points with Wilkinson and Khadijah Donaldson adding 12 apiece for the Clippers (1-6, 1-2).

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against University of the Sciences, beginning at 5:30 pm.
