Women’s Basketball Rolls to 79-61 Victory Over U. of the Sciences

Four players for Goldey-Beacom scored in double figures and the squad took charge in the second half for a 79-61 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over U. of the Sciences at the Joseph West Jones Center.

The Lightning (2-7, 2-1 CACC) scored seven straight points to turn a 43-34 lead into a 16-point cushion with 14:48 remaining.  Senior Lillian Chukwueze (Cherry Hill, NJ), who dominated overall for GBC, netted four points in that run.

This went a long way to help during the second half, when Goldey-Beacom shot 54 percent (15-of-28) from the floor and 9-for-13 from the line.  U. of the Sciences was held to just 36 percent shooting (12-of-33) in the stanza and only was 3-for-4 from the stripe.

Chukwueze closed with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, matched her season high of 12 rebounds and dished six assists to give her two double-doubles in the last three games.  Sophomore Jasmyne Lewis (Mount Holly, NJ) had 13 points and eight rebounds, Marisa Howard (Reminderville, OH) netted 13 points and fellow freshman Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) added 10 for the Lightning, who shot 53 percent (31-of-58) overall.

Brianne Traub scored 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting with three 3-pointers for the Devils (2-4, 2-1), who were held to 37 percent shooting (23-of-62) and went just 8-of-27 from beyond the arc.

Goldey-Beacom returns to the court Thursday for a non-conference tilt at Adelphi, starting at 5:30 pm.
