Women's Soccer Posts 5-0 Victory at Chowan

Semenza Scores Twice and Adds Assist in Shutout Win



MURFREESBORO, N.C.
– Senior forward Danielle Semenza (Hazleton Area H.S./Hazle Township, Pa.) scored two goals and added an assist to lead Goldey-Beacom College (4-4-0) earned its third win in the last four matches, a 5-0 non-conference victory over Chowan University (0-9-0) at the Chowan University Soccer Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior forward Alexandra Smith (Pennsville Memorial H.S./Pennsville, N.J.) gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead when she scored in the 12th minute off an assist from freshman midfielder Amy Runciman (Luton, England).

In the 29th minute, Semenza upped the advantage to 2-0 when she converted a pass from sophomore defender Becca Cordo (Hightstown H.S./Roosevelt, N.J.) for her fourth goal of the season.

With 6:03 remaining in the first half, sophomore midfielder Jane Grimley (Delsea Regional H.S./Franklinville, N.J.) extended the margin to 3-0 when she took a pass from Semenza and scored her second goal of the season on a shot to the far post.

Runciman tallied the first goal of her college career in the 62nd minute when she received a pass from senior forward Nicole Curry (Lenape H.S./Mount Laurel, N.J.) and scored on a shot from the top of the penalty area.

Semenza added her second goal of the match with 1:35 remaining on an assist from freshman midfielder Elena Power (Glassboro H.S./Glassboro, N.J.).

· Tuesday's match marked the first meeting between the Lightning and the Hawks in women's soccer.  
· The Lightning set a school record by taking 48 shots in the match against Chowan on Tuesday … The previous record was 42 shots against Columbia Union on Sept. 1, 2004 in a 10-0 victory.
· Smith has now scored eight goals in the Lightning's last four matches … She has posted two multi-goal efforts during that span and has a four-match goal-scoring streak
· Over the last four seasons, the Lightning are now 11-5 when Smith scores a goal … She has scored 29 career goals and needs just one more goal to tie the school record of 30 goals, which is held by Lori Knabb (2002-05).
· With 66 career points, Smith currently ranks third in Goldey-Beacom women's soccer history … She needs seven points to move past April Yanacek (2003-06) for second place on the career list.
· In the last four matches, the Lightning have outscored their opponents by an 18-5 margin … They have scored at least five goals in three of those contests.
· Semenza moved into sole possession of 10th place on the Lightning's career goals list after scoring the 11th and 12th goals of her college career.  
· Curry moved into a tie for 10th place on the Lightning's career assists list when she earned the 10th assist of her college career on Tuesday … She is tied with Alexis Frederick, who played for the Lightning from 2004-06.
