Men's Soccer Wraps Up 2014 Regular Season With 2-0 Win Versus Shepherd

Shepherdstown, W.V.-  The Lightning Men's Soccer team (9-9, 6-6 CACC) defeated the Shepherd University Rams (6-11-1, 3-9 MEC), 2-0, in non-conference action at Ram Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

The Lightning were once again led by senior forward Luiz Ristow (Joinville, Brazil) who tallied his 16th goal of the season on an assist from freshman midfielder Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, SC, Brazil) in the 44th minute.

The Lightning tacked on an insurance goal late in the second half when freshman forward Fernando Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) netted his 7th goal of the season and second in as many games off of an assist from freshman forward Omar Hernandez (Avon Grove H.S./West Grove, Pa.).

The Lightning outshot the Rams by a total of 29-5.

Freshman goalkeeper Marcus Arrvidsson (Taby, Sweden) earned his 5th shutout win of the season by tallying one save in today's win.

With his one goal today, and 16 goals on the season, Ristow locked up the number one spot in the CACC for goals scored. Ristow is also currently tied for 5th place in NCAA Division II for total goals. Ristow has also tallied six assists on the season which is good for a tie for 4th place in the CACC. He finished the regular season with 38 points, also good for 1st place in the CACC.

The Lightning, currently sit in 8th place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference standings will anxiously await the outcome of pivotal CACC matchup tomorrow afternoon. Post University will host Nyack College starting at 1:00 PM. With a Nyack win or draw, the Lightning will secure the 8th and final playoff spot.
