Ristow Nets Three, Lightning Defeat Tigers, 4-0

Ristow Scores First Career Hat-Trick

Box Score

Philadelphia, Pa.- The Lightning Men's Soccer team (8-9, 6-6 CACC) defeated the Holy Family University Tigers (5-8-5, 2-7-3 CACC), 4-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field. The Lightning were led by senior forward Luiz Ristow (Joinville, Brazil) in the win.

The Lightning, who had lost four consecutive one goal decisions, returned to their winning ways on the shoulders of Ristow, who tallied his first career hat-trick. Ristow started the scoring in the 36th minute when freshman midfielder Cameron Wilkinson (Terrigal, NSW, Australia) beat his defender and found Ristow all alone inside the six yard line where he calmly placed the ball into the back of the net for his first of the game.

Seven minutes later, Ristow nabbed his second marker of the game on a shot from 20 yards out that beat a diving keeper. He was not done there however and Ristow picked up his third goal of the game in the 54th minute when freshman midfielder Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, SC, Brazil) played a header to Ristow inside the 18 yard line and he found the twine again.

Ristow, who had been held goalless in his previous two matches, erupted today with five shots on goal. With his three goals today, Ristow now has 15 goals on the season, which is good for the CACC lead.

Freshman forward Fernando Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) took advantage of a goal scoring opportunity when he was awarded a penalty kick in the 83rd minute and netted his 6th goal of the season pushing the lead to 4-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Marcus Arrvidsson (Taby, Sweden), posted six saves in the win for the Lightning, improving his season record to 7-8 and posting his 4th shutout win this season.

The Lightning wrapped up their CACC schedule win the win, posting a record of six wins, six losses. Their six wins marks the best conference mark since 2003 when the Lightning won six games under, then head coach, Michael Finizio.

The Lightning who currently hold the 8th and final playoff spot, will have all eyes on tonight's CACC matchup between Bloomfield College and Post University. With a Bloomfield win, the Lightning will clinch their first trip to the postseason since 2007.

The Lightning will wrap up their 2014 regular season schedule when they travel to Shepherd University for non-conference matchup on Thursday afternoon, first touch is set for 2:00 PM.
