GBC Men’s Soccer Battles Concordia in Tightly Contested 2-1 Loss

Men's Soccer Fall to 7-9 on the Season

Wilmington, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team fell to Concordia College, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in a game filled with high tensions that resulted in five total yellow cards at Churchman-Sawin Field.

The loss is the Lightning's fourth straight as GBC moves to 7-9 overall and 5-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.  The Clippers improved to 8-2-2 on the year and 7-2-2 in the CACC.

Freshman Fernando Sanchez (Arenales H.S./Madrid Spain) opened the home finale with his fifth goal of the season in the 22nd minute.  Senior Luiz Ristow (Positivo Joinville/Joinville, Brazil) assisted on the 10-yard slant goal.

Concordia tied the game at 1-1 in the 33rd minute off a goal from Ovan Oakley.  The Clippers closed the first half with another goal in the 43rd minute from David McKenzie to go up, 2-1.

The two teams battled and kept things scoreless in the second half, despite GBC outshooting CC, 10-5, in the final period. 

In total, the Lightning outshot the Clippers, 16-12, while Concordia held the 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Freshman Marcus Arrivdsson (Danderyds Gymnasium/Taby, Sweden) recorded a game-best four saves in the loss while CC's Ruel Gordon was credited with the win after posting three saves.

Goldey-Beacom next travels to Philadelphia for a 3:30 p.m. game Tuesday at Holy Family University.
