Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa.- The Goldey-Beacom Lightning (7-8, 5-5 CACC) lost a 2-1 decision to the Chestnut Hill College Griffins (8-6-1, 7-2-1 CACC) in late fashion on Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field. It is the third straight one goal loss for the Lightning in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. With the win, the Griffins who posted their 7th conference win, moved into first place overall in the CACC.
The Lightning started the scoring in the 36th minute when freshman forward
Omar Hernandez ( Avon Grove H.S./West Grove, Pa.) accepted a short pass from freshman midfielder
Aaron Williams (Cedars Christian College /New South Wales, Australia), from just inside midfield, Hernandez floated a perfectly placed ball into the upper right 90 pass the outstretched hand of the Griffin goalkeeper James Jackson (Washington Township H.S./Sewell, NJ) for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Hernandez's fifth of the season, good for second place on the team. The Lightning starting defenders were able to limit the Griffins to just one shot on goal in the first half and Lightning held the lead through the first 45 minutes.
The Griffins were able to tie the game just 50 seconds into the second half when junior forward Juan Amaya (Montgomery College-Rockville /Cartagena, Colombia) found the twine to knot the game at one a piece. In the 70th minute Griffin freshman forward Diogo Barboza (Dona Maria /Estoril, Portugal) was able to chip freshman goalkeeper
Marcus Arrvidsson (Danderyds Gymnasium/Taby, Sweden), who made a terrific diving save off of a set piece shot from Amaya, for a 2-1 lead. The Griffins were able to hold the lead until the final horn sounded.
Arrvidsson posted a game high eight saves in the loss.
With the loss, the Lightning drop to eighth place in the conference standings and will look to break their three game losing streak when they host second place Concordia College on senior day at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field this Saturday at 3:00 PM.
