Led by a season-high 17 points from freshman guard
Jill Conroy (Bishop Ford H.S./Brooklyn, N.Y.), defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Holy Family (8-5, 6-0) overcame an early 13-point deficit to extend its win streak to five straight games with a 60-53 CACC victory over Goldey-Beacom College (6-8, 3-4) at the Joseph West Jones College Center on Wednesday evening.
In handing the Lightning their third consecutive loss, the Tigers remained unbeaten in the CACC this season and extended their regular season conference win streak to 18 consecutive games.
Led by six points from senior forward
Briana Richmond-Peters (Brimm Medical Arts H.S./Camden, N.J.), the Lightning sprinted out to a 19-6 lead in the opening seven minutes of the first half. But, the Tigers answerd by going on a 29-6 run over the next 10 minutes to take a commanding 35-25 lead. Sophomore guard
Erin Fenningham (St. Basil Academy/Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 10 of her 12 points during the run.
A pair of free throws by junior guard
Taylor Leonard (John A. Coleman Catholic H.S./Lake Katrine, N.Y.) with 34 seconds remaining trimmed the Lightning's deficit to 35-27 at the intermission.
The teams traded baskets four times to open the second half before the Lightning put together an 8-0 spurt, including four points from junior guard
Lillian Chukwueze (Cherry Hill East H.S./Cherry Hill, N.J.), to narrow the margin to 46-44 with 8:07 remaining in regulation.
However, the Tigers used a quick five-point run of their own to extend the advantage to 51-44 with 6:38 left on a three-point field goal by Conroy.
The Lightning answered with a 7-1 run of their own to trim the margin to 52-51 on a Leonard three-point field goal with 4:39 remaining, but the Tigers outscored Goldey-Beacom by an 8-2 margin over the final four minutes to secure the victory.
While Conroy led all scorers with her 17-point effort, sophomore forward
Kasey Woetzel (Ramapo H.S./Wyckoff, N.J.) came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points after making six of eight shots from the floor. Meanwhile, Fenningham contributed 12 points while senior forward
Carolyne Heston (Villa Joseph Marie H.S./Feasterville, Pa.) added 10 points with a team-high nine rebounds.
Chukwueze led the Lightning with 15 points while grabbing a season-high 18 rebounds while Richmond-Peters and freshman guard
Jasmyne Lewis (Rancocas Valley H.S./Mount Holly, N.J.) each contributed 10 points in the loss.
The Lightning will finish their three-game homestand on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they host local rival Wilmington University at the Jones Center at 1 p.m.
