Women's Cross Country Opens Season With Fifth Place Effort at Baruch

Mitchell Leads Lightning With 11th Place Effort

Tigan Frisby and the Lightning earned fifth place in their season-opening meet at Baruch.

BRONX, N.Y. – Senior Carly Mitchell (Elkton H.S./Elkton, Md.) finished in 11th place as the Goldey-Beacom College women's cross country team opened its 2013 season with a fifth place effort at the Baruch Invitational on Sunday morning.
 
Baruch College claimed the team title by scoring 59 points while John Jay College followed in second place with a score of 83 points. Meanwhile, Monroe College finished in third place with 94 points.
 
Mitchell, who is serving as the Lightning's team captain this year, completed the 6K course in a time of 29:41. Meanwhile, freshman Ariel Richardson (St. George's Tech H.S./New Castle, Del.) turned in a 20th place showing in the first meet of her college career, crossing the finish line in 30 minutes, 58 seconds.
 
Senior Ashley Zaccaria (Gloucester H.S./Gloucester City, N.J.) finished in 26th place with a time of 32:13 while sophomore Valarie Orth (Schalick H.S./Pittsgrove, N.J.) followed in 36th place by completing the race in 34 minutes, 3 seconds.
 
Sophomore Leshae Lee (Joppatowne H.S./Edgewood, Md.) finished in 55th place with a time of 38 minutes, 9 seconds while senior Tigan Frisby (Mount Pleasant H.S./Claymont, Del.) followed in 60th place with a time of 39:44.
 
The Lightning will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the University of Delaware Invitational.
