Volleyball Suffers Pair of Losses to Conclude Banner Invitational

CLARION, Pa. - Finishing its first weekend of competition in the 2013 season, the Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team (0-4) suffered a pair of three-set defeats during the second day of the second annual Tony Banner Memorial Invitational at Clarion University's Tippin Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

After dropping a 25-18, 25-10, 25-20 setback against Ohio Dominican University (3-1), the Lightning were handed a 25-15, 25-19, 25-20 loss by Edinboro University (3-1) in the nightcap.

Junior outside hitter Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) continued her solid start to the season by posting 15 kills with 9 digs in the two matches. She led the Lightning with eight kills against Ohio Dominican before contributing seven kills with five digs in the nightcap against the Fighting Scots.

Meanwhile, freshman middle hitter Casey Bair (Winters Mill H.S./Westminster, Md.) hit .444 with six kills and a solo block in the match against Edinboro while freshman setter Kim Matlock (Jackson Memorial H.S./Jackson, N.J.) tallied a pair of service aces in each match while adding 15 assists against Edinboro.

Senior opposite Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) contributed to the Lightning's effort on Saturday by recording seven kills with 22 assists and nine digs. In the match against Ohio Dominican, she posted a season-high 14 assists while tallying three kills and three digs.

Sophomore middle hitter Lauren Kraemer (Kettering, Ohio) led the Panthers past Goldey-Beacom in the first match by tallying a match-high 12 kills with a .625 hitting percentage and two blocks. Meanwhile, sophomore outside hitter Tory Thompson (Quincy, Ohio) added eight kills with three service aces and four digs.

Junior opposite Tabitha Meeks (Highland Heights, Ohio) led a balanced attack by Edinboro in the second match with eight kills, three service aces and nine digs while sophomore setter Katie Felix (Maumee, Ohio) recorded five service aces with a match-high 16 assists.

The Lightning will finish their season-opening five-match road trip on Tuesday, Sept. 10 when they visit Cheyney University for a non-conference match against the Wolves at 7 p.m.
