Women's Tennis Starts 2013-14 Campaign Against Molloy

Lightning Hope to Have Another Record-Setting Season

Filipa Correia and the Lightning will look to start the season on a winning note on Friday.

WILMINGTON, Del. - After winning a school-record 14 matches and reaching the NCAA Division II Regional Championship, the Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team opens the 2013-14 season with hopes of repeating that success.

The quest for another successful season begins on Friday as the Lightning host Molloy College in a non-conference match at the Delcastle Tennis Center at 2 p.m.

The Lightning, who posted a 14-6 record last year, return five letter winners from last season, including junior Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia). The two-time reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year, Puentes Robinson has compiled a 31-6 singles record during her first two seasons at Goldey-Beacom, including an outstanding 19-3 mark last year.

Puentes Robinson, who has won eight of her last nine matches dating back to last season, will also be joined by senior Rocio Cabanillas Moreno (Sevilla, Spain). Cabanillas Moreno, who primarily as the Lightning's number two singles player, compiled a 13-5 record in singles play last year.

Meanwhile, Molloy is looking to rebound from a tough 6-9 season last year, including a 3-4 mark in East Coast Conference play. One of the keys for the Lions' success will be their veteran roster, which features four seniors among the five returning letter winners.

Senior Tatiana Rajaona (Paris, France) returns as the Lions' top singles player after compiling an 11-6 record last year, including a 7-2 mark at the number two singles position. Meanwhile, senior Gabrielle DiCroce (East Meadow H.S./East Meadow, N.Y.) earned a 7-9 record in singles play while playing primarily in the number four position.

The Lightning defeated the Lions by a 9-0 margin in last year's meeting at Molloy.

Following Friday's match, the Lightning will be idle until Friday, Sept. 13 when they open their CACC schedule at Post University.
