Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches to Open Season

Kadi McCoy Posts 16 Kills to Lead Lightning

CLARION, Pa. – Junior outside hitter Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) recorded 16 kills, but it was not enough as Goldey-Beacom College (0-2) dropped a pair of matches to open its 2013 season at the Tony Banner Invitational at Tippin Gymnasium on Friday afternoon.

The Lightning dropped a three-set decision against Clarion University in their first match before suffering a four-set setback against Concord University in the nightcap.

McCoy, who earned honorable mention All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference notice in each of the last two years, tallied five kills with five digs in the first match against the Golden Eagles before erupting for 11 kills in the loss against Concord.

Junior outside hitter Taylor Moyer (Blue Mountain H.S./Schuylkil Haven, Pa.) added seven kills in the two matches. In addition, she tallied three blocks and became the 10th player in Goldey-Beacom history to reach 100 career blocks.

Meanwhile, junior defensive specialist Niki Receveur (Concord H.S./Wilmington, Del.) led the Lightning's defensive effort with 18 digs in the two matches, including a team-high 11 digs against Clarion.

Sophomore outside hitter Jocelyn Uchic (Maumee, Ohio) led the Golden Eagles in the first match with eight kills and a .412 hitting percentage while junior setter Laura Subject (Novi, Mich.) posted 28 assists along with seven digs.

In the nightcap, junior outside hitter Brytni Willis (Silver Spring, Md.) tallied a match-high 12 kills as the Mountain Lions rallied from a 25-22 deficit in the first set to earn their first win of the season. Junior setter Amanda Walker (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 23 assists and eight digs as Concord hit .368 in the match.

The Lightning, who play their first five matches on the road, will play a pair of matches at the Tony Banner Invitational on Saturday. After facing Ohio Dominican at 11 a.m., the Lightning will play against Edinboro to close out their tournament schedule at 5 p.m.
