WILMINGTON, Del. - Junior
Linda Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden) won a pair of matches, including the deciding match at number two singles, as defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Concordia College (4-1, 4-1) held off an upset bid by Goldey-Beacom College (4-1, 3-1) to hand the Lightning a 5-4 loss in a CACC match at the Delcastle Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The loss snapped the Lightning's four-match win streak to open the season while Concordia earned its second victory in a row.
With the match tied at 4-4, Eliasson gave the Clippers the one-point victory when she earned a 6-2, 7-5 victory at number two singles over senior
Rocio Cabanillas Moreno (Sevilla, Spain). She also turned in an 8-3 win at number two doubles with junior
Alla Kravchuk (Tashkent, Uzbekistan).
Freshman
Costanza Mecchi (Rome, Italy) earned a pair of wins for Concordia, teaming up with freshman
Stefanie Canals-Baker (Pollensa, Islas Baleares, Spain) for an 8-1 victory at number one doubles before posting a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over junior
Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia) at number one singles.
Meanwhile, Canals-Baker posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory at number three singles.
Junior
Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal) led the Lightning in a losing effort by winning a pair of matches, including a 6-3, 6-1 decision at number four singles.
The Lightning will host Caldwell College in a CACC match on Monday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m.
