PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Led by a complete team effort, the Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team extended its dual match win streak to four straight matches with a convincing 8-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Philadelphia University (4-3, 2-2) on Tuesday evening.
The Lightning, who improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the CACC, claimed all three doubles matches before winning five of six singles matches. Meanwhile, the Rams had their two-match win streak snapped with the loss.
Junior
Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia), who earned CACC Player of the Week honors for the third time this season on Monday, posted a pair of victories in the match against the Rams. After pairing up with freshman
Maria Angeles Victoria Martinez (Totana, Spain) for an 8-5 decision at number two singles, Puentes Robinson earned a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over senior
Isabela Espinosa (Quito, Ecuador).
Meanwhile, senior
Rocio Cabanillas Moreno (Sevilla, Spain) also claimed a pair of wins. She tallied an 8-3 victory with freshman
Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) at number one doubles before earning a 6-2, 6-3 verdict at number two singles against freshman
Naia Bengoa (Caracas, Venezuela).
Sengl also tallied a singles win after a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-1) victory over senior
Sayre Limburg (Proctor Academy/New London, N.H.) at number five singles.
Senior
Gabriela Chaves (Joao Pessoa-PB, Brazil) earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at number four singles while junior
Anastasia Melnikova (Vladivostok, Russia) posted a 6-0, 6-1 decision at number six singles.
Junior
Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal) and freshman
Raquel Santos (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) teamed together to give the Lightning an 8-1 victory at number three singles.
The Lightning, who are off to a 4-0 start for the second year in a row, will return home on Saturday, Sept. 28 to host defending CACC champion Concordia College at 1 p.m.
