FLUSHING, N.Y. - Sophomores
Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia) and
Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal) each recorded a singles win, but it wasn't enough as Goldey-Beacom College (14-5) suffered a 7-2 non-conference defeat against No. 36 Queens College (16-1) on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights, who are ranked No. 2 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II East Region rankings, extended their win streak to six straight matches with the victory. Meanwhile, the Lightning, who are ranked No. 5 in the ITA East Region, had a three-match win streak snapped.
Puentes Robinson, who is ranked No. 50 in the nation, earned her fourth consecutive singles victory after posting a 6-0, 6-1 decision against senior
Erika Goldsmith (Edison H.S./Edison, N.J.) at number one singles.
Meanwhile, Correia also earned her fourth singles win in a row after recording a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over sophomore
Weronika Kurka (Szczecin, Poland) at number four singles.
The Lightning will finish their regular season schedule on Friday, Apr. 12 by facing Philadelphia University in a non-conference match at the DelCastle Tennis Center at 3 p.m. at the DelCastle Tennis Center.
