LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Playing its third match in the last four days, the Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team used a complete team effort to earn its fifth shutout win of the season, a 9-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Georgian Court University at the Ellen Mullane Gallagher Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.
With the win, the Lightning improved to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the CACC while Georgian Court dropped to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the CACC.
Junior
Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia) earned a pair of victories against the Lions, including a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number one singles. She also teamed up with freshman
Maria Angeles Victoria Martinez (Totana, Spain) for an 8-1 triumph at number two doubles.
Meanwhile, Victoria Martinez recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at number three singles.
Junior
Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal) also had two wins in the match. She posted a 6-3, 6-3 decision at number four singles after teaming up with senior
Gabriela Chaves (Joao Pessoa-PB, Brazil) to earn an 8-0 verdict at number three singles.
Junior
Anastasia Melnikova (Vladivostok, Russia) paired with freshman
Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) to record an 8-3 victory at number two doubles before tallying a 6-3, 6-2 win at number five singles.
Senior
Rocio Cabanillas Moreno (Sevilla, Spain) and freshman
Raquel Santos (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) also claimed a singles victory.
The Lightning will host the University of the Sciences in their final conference match of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
