WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior forward
Claude Allen (Kingston, Jamaica) scored three goals, including a pair of markers in the first three minutes, as Bloomfield College (3-11-0, 3-5-0) ended a three-match losing streak with a 4-2 victory over Goldey-Beacom College (2-12-1, 1-7-1) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match played at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field on Saturday afternoon.
Allen, who scored his first three goals of the season, led the Deacons to their first win since a 1-0 victory over Caldwell on Oct. 8.
The Deacons took a very quick 1-0 lead in the second minute of the match when Allen headed home his first goal of the season. Just over a minute later, he upped the advantage to 2-0 when he took a pass from sophomore
Hamilton Pereira (East Side H.S./Newark, N.J.) and scored on a breakaway.
In the 54th minute, the Lightning trimmed the deficit to 2-1 when senior midfielder
Andre Jank (Campo Grande, Brazil) scored his team-high sixth goal of the season, an unassisted marker on a free kick from 20 yards.
But, Allen quickly increased the Bloomfield lead to 3-1 when he collected a loose ball in the 56th minute and completed his "hat trick" with an open shot inside the penalty area.
Freshman midfielder
Erik Tapper (Linkoping, Sweden) narrowed the gap to 3-2 with 21:41 remaining in regulation by scoring the first goal of his college career off assists from sophomore midfielder
Jorge Saad (San Juan, Brazil) and junior forward
Luiz Ristow (Joinville, Brazil).
However, the Deacons secured the victory in the 76th minute as freshman
Amin Miller (Mondeville, Jamaica) tallied his first career goal after an outlet pass from junior defender
Daniel Oduro (Kumasi, Ghana).
While Allen led the Deacons with his three-goal effort, freshman goalkeeper
Arthur Clapot (Annecy, France) tallied one save as Bloomfield outshot Goldey-Beacom by a 13-7 margin.
Senior goalkeeper
Carlos Meinhard (Caracas, Venezuela) made two saves in the loss for the Lightning.
The Lightning, who are now winless in their last seven matches, will play their penultimate home game of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 22 when they face Chestnut Hill in a CACC match at 4 p.m.
