Live Stats: Goldey-Beacom vs. Concordia | Chestnut Hill vs. Philadelphia Univ.
WILMINGTON, Del. - Making its sixth consecutive appearance in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship, the Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team will begin its quest at a CACC title by facing defending conference champion Concordia in the semifinals on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Chestnut Hill College.
The Lightning, who are the third seed in the four-team field, will play against the second-seeded Clippers in the second semifinal at 1 p.m. In the first semifinal, top-seeded and tournament host Chestnut Hill will square off against fourth-seeded Philadelphia University at 10 a.m.
The semifinal winners will meet in the CACC Championship Match on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 12 p.m. with the winner earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship in April.
Now 7-2 on the season, the Lightning posted a 6-2 CACC record in the regular season with their losses coming against Concordia on Sept. 28 and at Chestnut Hill on Oct. 2. Of the Lightning's six CACC wins this season, four of them were by a 9-0 margin.
Junior
Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia) will lead the Lightning into their semifinal match against Concordia on Saturday. A two-time selection as the CACC Player of the Year, Puentes Robinson has posted an 8-4 singles record this season, including a 6-3 mark in dual matches.
With a 39-10 career record, Puentes Robinson ranks fourth on the Lightning's all-time singles wins list while her .796 win percentage is also the fourth-highest singles mark in school history.
Meanwhile, freshman
Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) has been a very welcome addition to the lineup for Coach
Joe Kissel and the Lightning. She has posted a 10-1 singles record this season, including a perfect 8-0 mark in dual matches.
With a 12-1 overall record, Chestnut Hill enters the CACC Championship as the top seed after earning a perfect 8-0 CACC mark. Junior
Charlotte Dawson (Odessa, Texas) won seven of eight singles matches against CACC opponents at the number one position while freshman
Marie Deleval (Grimaud, France) posted a perfect 8-0 conference mark at number three singles.
Looking to repeat as CACC champions, Concordia is led by freshman
Constanza Mecchi (Rome, Italy), who posted an 8-0 conference mark as the Clippers' number one singles player. In fact, Mecchi has not lost a set all season and has surrendered just 14 games in eight matches.
Philadelphia University had an interesting series of events occur during the past week. Inclement weather forced the Rams to finish a CACC match against Caldwell on Sunday before playing against Post later that afternoon. On Tuesday, the Rams earned a 6-3 victory over Holy Family to secure their berth in the tournament field.
The Rams, who are 11-4 on the season, have won 8 of their last 10 matches and are led by senior
Isabela Espinosa (Quito, Ecuador). Espinose has an 8-3 singles record, including a 7-3 mark at number one singles.
