Rams Hand Lightning Third Loss in Last Four Matches

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Led by two goals from freshman forward Miguel Ross (Pottstown H.S./Pottstown, Pa.), West Chester University erupted for a season-high five goals en route to its third win in the last four matches, a 5-0 non-conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (2-9-1) at the Rams' South Campus Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Rams, who have posted a 5-1-1 record in their last seven matches, also posted their fifth shutout in the last seven matches while handing the Lightning their third loss in the last four matches.

The Golden Rams took a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute when senior midfielder Josh Labik (Twin Valley H.S./Elverson, Pa.) scored his first goal of the season off a pass from junior defender John Gabel (Perkiomen Valley H.S./Skippack, Pa.).

Less than three minutes later, freshman midfielder Brett Beaumont (Archbishop Ryan H.S./Bensalem, Pa.) upped the West Chester advantage to 2-0 when he scored the first goal of his college career off a feed from junior forward David Green (Elkton H.S./Elkton, Md.).  

In the 57th minute, West Chester extended the margin to 3-0 when Ross tallied an unassisted marker for his third goal of the season. Just over a minute later, the Golden Rams received an own goal for a 4-0 lead.

With 54 seconds remaining, Ross added his second goal of the match when he headed home a pass from Green.

While Ross led the Golden Rams to the victory, sophomore goalkeeper Phil Horan (Freehold Township H.S./Freehold, N.J.) posted six saves while earning his first shutout of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Carlos Meinhard (Caracas, Venezuela) made five saves for the Lightning, who were outshot by a 20-9 margin.

The Lightning will resume their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule on Saturday, Oct. 12 by facing Felician College in an 8 p.m. match at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
