Women's Tennis Shuts Out Holy Family, 9-0

Lightning Improve to 6-1 With Fourth Shutout Victory of Season

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Playing for the fifth consecutive day, the Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team showed no signs of fatigue as the Lightning (6-1) earned their fourth shutout victory of the season with a 9-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Holy Family University (4-4) at the Torresdale Country Club Courts on Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Colombia), who was playing for the fifth straight day after reaching the semifinals of the 'A' Singles draw at the ITA Regional Championships, led the Lightning to the victory by earning a pair of wins. After teaming with sophomore Anastasia Melnikova (Vladivostok, Russia) to earn an 8-4 victory at number one doubles, Puentes Robinson upped her singles record to 9-2 this season with a 6-3, 6-3 verdict over senior Juliana Victoria (Guayaquil, Ecuador).

Meanwhile, Melnikova posted an 8-1 pro-set victory over freshman Jacqueline Clyne (West Islip, N.Y.) at number six singles.

Junior Rocio Cabanillas Moreno (Sevilla, Spain) also earned a pair of victories against the Tigers, posting a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at number two doubles after an 8-2 victory with sophomore Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal) at number two doubles. Correia defeated junior Steicy Castro (London, England) at number four singles with a 6-2, 6-1 decision.

Senior Blanca Sancho (Zaragoza, Spain) posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number three singles while earning an 8-0 win with senior Vanessa Leon (Caracas, Venezuela) at number three doubles. Meanwhile, Leon also earned a singles victory with an 8-1 pro-set verdict over sophomore Casey Borish (Philadelphia, Pa.).

The Lightning will continue their stretch of four matches in seven days on Thursday afternoon when they visit Georgian Court University in a CACC match at 3:30 p.m.
