WILMINGTON, Del. - After dropping a tough four-set decision against Chestnut Hill on Wednesday night, the Lightning volleyball team will continue its three-match road trip on Saturday afternoon with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at Felician. Opening serve from Job Gymnasium is set for 1 p.m.
Now 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the CACC, the Lightning will be looking to snap a four-match losing streak when they face the Golden Falcons on Saturday afternoon. They suffered the loss on Wednesday night by scores of 25-23, 19-25, 25-13 and 26-24.
Sophomore outside hitter
Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) led the Lightning with her second "double double" of the season with 17 kills and 10 digs while sophomore defensive specialist
Niki Receveur (Concord H.S./Wilmington, Del.) added a season-high 17 digs.
The CACC leader in kills per set with a 3.32 average, McCoy has tallied 133 kills in 11 matches this season for the Lightning. Over the last four matches, she has led the Lightning with 57 kills and has at least 12 kills in each outing. Meanwhile, senior setter/opposite
Monica Dempsey (Secaucus H.S./Secaucus, N.J.) leads the Lightning with 185 assists, 101 digs and 26 service aces.
The Golden Falcons enter Saturday's match looking for their first win of the season after dropping a three-set decision against Post on Wednseday night. In nine matches this year, Felician has won just five sets, including two sets against Concordia on Sept. 11.
Sophomore
Anni Polscher (Elmshorn, Germany) and freshman
Olivia Emersonb (TMCC H.S./Sparks, Nev.) each recorded six kills and two blocks in the loss against the Eagles on Saturday night.
Emerson leads the Golden Falcons with 65 kills in 9 matches while senior outside hitter
Jenna Matesic (Paramus H.S./Paramus, N.J.) has tallied 64 kills and ranks second on the team with 98 digs. Freshman middle blocker
Kayla Gallagher (Pine Bush H.S./Bloomingburg, N.Y.) leads the Golden Falcons with 18 blocks while her 58 kills rank third on the team.
The Lightning earned a three-set victory over the Golden Falcons in last year's meeting at the Jones Center as sophomore outside hitter
Taylor Moyer (Blue Mountain H.S./Schuylkill Haven, Pa.) posted a team-high 11 kills with three digs while Dempsey posted a "double double" with 22 assists and 18 digs.
After Saturday's match, the Lightning will be idle until Friday, Sept. 28 when they travel to Holy Family University for a 7 p.m. CACC match against the Tigers.
