PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman outside hitter
Abby Gruver (Whitehall H.S./Coplay, Pa.) tallied a match-high 20 kills and added 13 digs to lead Chestnut Hill College (5-8, 1-1) to its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory of the season, a four-set win over Goldey-Beacom College (4-7, 0-3) at the Griffins' Sorgenti Arena on Wednesday night.
The Griffins, who snapped a two-match losing streak, won the match by scores of 25-23, 19-25, 25-13 and 26-24. Meanwhile, the Lightning dropped its fourth straight match.
In leading the Griffins to the victory, Gruver recorded her third “double double” of the season while hitting over .300 for the third time this season. She also tallied 10 or more digs for the fourth time this year, including three of the last five matches.
Meanwhile, junior outside hitter
Alexandra DePalma (Governor Mifflin H.S./Shillington, Pa.) added 15 kills and 16 digs while junior middle hitter
Mary Markowski (Hereford H.S./Parkton, Md.) contributed 12 kills and a .320 hitting percentage.
Freshman defensive specialist
Deanna Bianchini (Wissahickon Senior H.S./Blue Bell, Pa.) tallied a match-high 24 digs for the Griffins in the victory.
Sophomore outside hitter
Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) led the Lightning in a losing effort by posting her second “double double” of the season with 17 kills and 10 digs while sophomore defensive specialist
Niki Receveur (Concord H.S./Wilmington, Del.) added a season-high 17 digs.
There were a total of 28 ties and 14 lead changes in the match, including 16 ties and three lead changes in the fourth set.
The Lightning will continue their three-match road trip on Saturday afternoon when they visit Felician for a 1 p.m. CACC match against the Golden Falcons. Meanwhile, the Golden Griffins will host Concordia on Saturday at 1 p.m.
