WILMINGTON, Del. – For the fourth consecutive match, Goldey-Beacom College (4-0) swept all six singles matches as the Lightning extended their win streak to four straight matches with a 9-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Caldwell College (0-3) at the DelCastle Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
It marked the third time this season the Lightning have won by a 9-0 margin. The only non-sweep victory came in an 8-1 triumph against Philadelphia University on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore
Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Columbia) extended her singles win streak to eight straight matches after posting a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number one singles after an 8-1 victory at number one doubles with sophomore
Anastasia Melnikova (Vladivostok, Russia).
Junior
Rocio Cabanillas Moreno (Sevilla, Spain) also tallied a pair of wins against the Cougars. She posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number two singles following an 8-1 victory at number two doubles with sophomore
Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal). Correia also added a singles win at the number four position, winning by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
Senior
Blanca Sancho (Zaragoza, Spain), who earned honorable mention notice from the CACC this week, posted a 6-2, 6-1 decision at number three singles to extend her singles win streak to eight straight matches, dating back to last season.
Junior
Gabriela Chaves (Joao Pessoa, Brazil) recorded a pair of victories, winning in straight sets at number six singles and teaming with senior
Vanessa Leon (Caracas, Venezuela) for an 8-0 decision at number three doubles.
Senior
Melanie Bonomo (Maracay, Venezuela) posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number five singles to complete the sweep for the Lightning.
Goldey-Beacom will host New York Institute of Technology on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. at DelCastle Tennis Center.
