Lightning Remain Undefeated With 3-0 Record

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – For the third straight match, Goldey-Beacom College won all six singles matches as the Lightning extended their win streak to three straight matches by posting a 9-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the University of the Sciences at the McNeil Athletic Fields on Tuesday afternoon.

The win allowed the Lightning to remain undefeated with a 3-0 record while the Devils fell to 1-2 on the season.

Sophomore Stephanie Puentes Robinson (Bogota, Columbia) earned a pair of victories to lead the Lightning. After teaming up with senior Blanca Sancho (Zaragoza, Spain) for an 8-6 triumph at number one doubles, Puentes Robinson earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number one singles to extend her singles win streak to seven straight matches, dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Sancho also upped her singles win streak to seven consecutive matches with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number three singles.

Junior Rocio Cabanillas Moreno (Sevilla, Spain) also had a pair of wins on Tuesday, earning an 8-2 victory at number two doubles with sophomore Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal) before earning an 8-1 pro-set win at number two singles.

Senior Vanessa Leon (Caracas, Venezuela) posted an 8-0 victory at number three doubles with junior Gabriela Chaves (Joao Pessoa-PB, Brazil) before adding an 8-0 pro-set win at number four singles.

Sophomore Anastasia Melnikova (Vladivostok, Russia) and senior Melanie Bonomo (Maracay, Venezuela) also posted singles wins at the number five and six positions, respectively.

The Lightning will return to the DelCastle Tennis Center to host Caldwell College in a CACC match on Friday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.
