Men's Soccer Hosts Local Rival Wilmington on Wednesday

Lightning Looking to Earn First CACC Win of Season

WILMINGTON, Del.
- Looking to snap its two-match losing streak, the Lightning men's soccer team will continue its three-match homestand on Wednesday afternoon by hosting local rival Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex at 4 p.m.

It will be the second of seven home matches for the Lightning at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex. Goldey-Beacom is looking for its first home win of the season.

Now 1-2-0 on the season, the Lightning dropped a 3-0 decision against Philadelphia University last Wednesday at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex. Senior goalkeeper Ignacio Farias made three saves in his first start of the season as the Lightning were outshot by a 19-6 margin.

Since scoring a pair of goals against Saint Rose on Aug. 31, the Lightning have been outscored by a 7-0 margin in their two losses.

Off to a 1-3-0 start and a 0-1-0 CACC record, the Wildcats also have a two-game losing streak after falling to third-ranked Franklin Pierce by a 5-4 margin on Saturday afternoon in the first game at the new WU Athletics Complex. The Wildcats scored twice in the first 17 minutes of the second half to tie the game at 3-3 before Franklin Pierce scored twice to secure the victory.

Sophomore midfielder Pedro Moreira scored his team-leading third goal of thes eason in the loss on Saturday afternoon. He has scored a goal in three of the Wildcats' four games this season, including the game-winning marker against Bridgeport on Sept. 1.

Junior goalkeeper Chad Jenkins ranks second in the CACC with 24 saves in four games this season.

After Wednesday's match-up against the Wildcats, the Lightning will host Felician College in the second game of a soccer doubleheader at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
