HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - After ending their season last year with a 9-0 victory over Molloy, the Lightning women's tennis team could not help but feel a sense of deja vu on Thursday afternoon after opening its 2012-13 season with an identical 9-0 triumph over the Lions at the Hempstead Lake State Park.

The Lightning, who posted a 9-6 record last year, earned the sweep while not losing a set in any of the singles matches and winning all three doubles matches.

Sophomore Stephanie Puentes Robinson earned a straight set victory at number one singles after teaming up with senior Blanca Sancho to earn a hard-fought 9-7 victory at number one doubles in a match that lasted nearly 90 minutes. Meanwhile, Sancho posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number three singles over Madeline Juriano.

Making her Goldey-Beacom debut, junior Rocio Cabanillas Moreno also had a straight sets victory at number two singles (6-0, 6-0) after an 8-1 victory at number two doubles with sophomore Filipa Correia. Correia also posted a straight set victory at number four singles, defeating Nikki Gloria by scores of 6-1 and 6-1.

Senior Vanessa Leon also earned two victories in the season opener against Molloy, posting a 6-2, 6-3 at number five singles following an 8-1 verdict at number three doubles with junior Gabriela Chaves. Senior Melanie Bonomo had a strong effort at number six singles, winning by scores of 6-0 and 6-0.

The Lightning will open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule on Sunday, Sept. 9 when they host Philadelphia University at DelCastle Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
